May 5, 2024

NASSAU, Bahamas – Josefine Eriksen of Utah track & field team helped her native country of Norway earn a spot in the Games of the XXXIII Olympiad on Saturday, May 4, before finishing fifth-overall on Sunday in the finals of the World Athletics Relays inside Thomas A. Robinson Track & Field Stadium.

On Saturday, Eriksen ran the opening leg of the 4x400m relay with a 51.77 split before her teammates combined for a then Norwegian national record run of 3:26.89 for second behind the United States. That second-place finish not only advanced Norway to the finals, but was the first time the Norwegians have qualified a relay team to the Olympics since the Games of the VII Olympiad in Antwerp, Belgium, back in 1920.

Sunday's finals saw Eriksen run an ever faster split in her opening leg with a mark of 51.69 while Norway finished fifth-overall after narrowly besting their previous national record by .01 (3:26.88).

Prelims at the Summer Olympics in Paris will begin on Friday, Aug. 9, at 2:40 a.m. (MDT) / 10:40 a.m. (CEST / GMT +2). Should the Norwegians advance to the finals, they'll take to the track inside Stade de France at 1:22 p.m. (MDT) / 21:22 p.m. (CEST / GMT +2).
