May 8, 2024

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Oregon State women's golf team advanced to the NCAA National Championships for the second-straight year, and the third time in program history, on Wednesday.

The Beavers advanced to the NCAA National Championships one time in their first 47 years (1998) and now will make back-to-back trips.

Oregon State concluded the NCAA Division I Regionals with a 2-under 285-293-284—862 at the par-72, 6,297-yard Bermuda Run Country Club to finish fifth in the 12-team field.

The top five teams at the NCAA Winston-Salem Regional earned an invitation to the NCAA National Championships, which are scheduled for May 17-22 at the Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, Calif. Joining Oregon State from the Winston-Salem Regional are Ole Miss (21-under 843), Texas (20-under 844), Wake Forest (18-under 846) and Mississippi State (3-under 861).

The Beavers finished 16th at the NCAA National Championships in 1998 and tied for 22nd in 2023.

True freshman Raya Nakao and fifth-year senior Chayse Gomez both posted Top 10 finishes. It's the fourth this season for Nakao and the seventh in her career for Gomez.

Nakao posted under-par scores all three rounds and finished in a tie for fifth place with a 7-under 69-71-69—209. She finished fifth in her first collegiate tournament at the Dick McGuire Invitational and had a tie for fifth at the Molly Collegiate Invitational this past fall. Her best career three-round score was an 8-under 208 at the Moly Collegiate Invitational.

She had 43 pars over the three rounds, the most in the field, and added nine birdies. Nakao now has 13 sub-par scores in her fabulous freshman campaign.

Gomez was also in red figures all three rounds and improved her score by a stroke each day, posting a 6-under 71-70-69—210 to finish in a tie for seventh place. She led the team with 12 birdies, tied for the fifth most in the field. The 6-under 210 equaled her best career three-round score, which she first posted last season at the NCAA Regionals in Westfield, Ind.

She now has 35 sub-par scores in her career and seven Top 10 finishes, tied for the eighth most in Oregon State women's golf history.

Sophomore Kyra Ly had four birdies in the final round to post an even-par 72 and moved six spots up the leaderboard with a 2-over 69-77-72—218 to finish in a tie for 24th place. She had 11 birdies over the three rounds, the second most on the team.

Junior Madde Sund had double bogeys on the first and fourth holes but rallied with two birdies and 12 pars the rest of the way to card a 2-over 74, her best score of the event. The final round moved her 12 spots up the leaderboard and into a tie for 42nd place with an 11-over 76-77-74—227.

After opening the tournament with an 11-over 83, true freshman Rebecca Kim was steady the next two rounds with scores of 75-76 to finish in a tie for 58th place with an 18-over 83-75-76—234.
