Since June, the Pac-12 has been celebrating its rich history of women's sports through the powHER of the Pac campaign, which commemorates 50 years since the passing of the landmark Title IX legislation.
The Pac-12 has won a nation-best 201 women's national championships and dominated a number of sports since the NCAA started sponsoring women's athletics in 1981-82. In the 2022 calendar year alone, a Pac-12 member won the national championship in women's soccer (UCLA), women's golf (Stanford), beach volleyball (USC) and water polo (Stanford).
Feb. 1 marks National Girls and Women in Sports Day, so Pac-12 schools took to social media to recognize the contributions of the women in their athletic departments — from coaches and student-athletes to all the staffers in between.
To our female student-athletes present & past.
To our female coaches & staff.
To the future generations watching in the stands.
To the media members who cover us.
To all women on the playing fields, the sidelines & behind the scenes.Happy National Girls and Women in Sports Day! pic.twitter.com/82fx8EXVtK
