Pac-12 Women's Lacrosse Weekly Rundown - April 12, 2023

The Pac-12 regular season is winding down with highly-anticipated matchups and regular season titles on the horizon. If No. 20 USC defeats both Colorado and Oregon this weekend, the Trojans will clinch at least a share of the Pac-12 regular season title.

This Week
  • Colorado (6-5, 4-1 Pac-12) hosts No. 20 USC (11-3, 6-1 Pac-12) on Pac-12 Network as part of a three-game slate on Friday, April 14.
    • USC has taken the last three showdowns, however the most recent Colorado win came in the 2021 Pac-12 Tournament semifinal in which the Buffaloes came back to win 9-8 to reach the championship.
  • Arizona State (4-8, 3-4 Pac-12) visits Oregon (4-7, 0-5 Pac-12) on Friday as the Ducks return to Pac-12 play.
    • The Sun Devils have a six-game win streak against Oregon.
    • Oregon is 3-4 at home this year.
  • The Cardinal (7-6, 5-2 Pac-12) concludes non-conference action against No. 3 Denver (13-0).
    • It will be Stanford’s seventh contest against a ranked team this season.
    • Denver is one of two undefeated teams in Division I.
  • California (3-10, 1-6 Pac-12) visits Northern California foe UC Davis (7-6) on Saturday, April 15.
    • Last season the Golden Bears defeated the Aggies, 16-15 for their 15th win over the program. Amanda Morse scored a career-best five goals as Cal erased a five-goal deficit for the victory.
  • The Buffs square off against Arizona State on Sunday, April 16.
    • Colorado currently sits in second place in the Pac-12 standings at 4-1 in league play.
    • Arizona State has taken two of the last three meetings against the Buffs.
  • USC versus Oregon wraps up the weekend’s schedule.
    • The Trojans are 107-18 against unranked opponents.
    • Sunday’s game will be Oregon’s final home contest of the regular season.

  • Colorado rolled over San Diego State, 17-4 to conclude non-conference play.
    • Sam McGee netted five goals and Charlie Rudy added four.
  • USC defeated California, 18-4 to remain undefeated at home on the year.
    • The 14-point differential was a season best for the Trojans, who held the Golden Bears scoreless for over 42 minutes.
    • Kennedy Goss moved into second place on Cal’s all-time list with 175 draw controls after recording a team-high four against USC.
  • Stanford won its third straight game after topping Arizona State, 22-11, marking the third time this year the Cardinal have scored 20 or more goals.
    • The Cardinal got bookending seven-point quarters in the contest, and were led by Annabel Frist’s five goals and Ashley Humphrey’s seven points.
    • Teagan Ng tied a career high with three goals on just three shots
  • Oregon got back to its winning ways with an overtime win over UC Davis.
    • It was the second-straight overtime game for the Ducks, who took the 13-12 decision behind Morgan McCarthy’s game winner.
  • Arizona State won its ninth straight against California, edging the Golden Bears 15-6.
    • Katie Vahle made six saves in 45 minutes of play, recording a career-best .750 save mark.
    • Six different Golden Bears scored a goal, and Riley Drullinger made four saves.
  • USC wrapped up play at home with a 10-7 win over Stanford, snapping a four-game win streak by the Cardinal in the series.
    • The Trojans held Stanford to a season-low seven goals. Isabelle Vitale scored three goals and added two assists.
    • Kara Rahaim made nine saves, her seventh game with nine or more this season.
Notes and Numbers
  • USC moved up to No. 20 in the latest IWLCA poll, and Stanford is receiving votes for the fourth-straight week.
    • USC has been ranked in 22 consecutive polls.
  • The first RPI rankings of the season were released this week, with Stanford leading the way at No. 33 followed by No. 36 USC, No. 55 Colorado, No. 76 Arizona State, No. 93 Oregon and No. 109 California.
  • Arizona State ranks third in the country in clearing percentage at .94.
  • The Cardinal have the 25th toughest schedule in the country, with its opposition boasting a .589 win percentage.
    • Stanford has faced three teams in the top 20 of the RPI.
  • After setting the NCAA record a year ago, Stanford’s Humphrey ranks third among active players with 121 assists, and is first with 3.78 assists per game.
  • USC finished out the season undefeated at home (8-0) for the fourth time in program history (2017, 16, and 15).
  • When Cal scores at least 13 goals the Bears are 3-0, but when the Bears score 12 or fewer they are 0-10.
  • After a slow start in which it lost its first four games, Colorado has turned things around to win six of its last seven including three straight at home.
    • The lone loss during that streak came against then-No. 18 USC on the road.
    • The Buffs have scored 113 goals over that stretch for an average of 16.1 goals per game.
  • Oregon’s win over UC Davis this past weekend was its first overtime victory since 2018, and marked the first time in program history the Ducks played back-to-back overtime games.
2023 Pac-12 Tournament
  • The 2023 Pac-12 Women’s Lacrosse Tournament will take place in Berkeley, California from May 3-6, and the tournament champion will receive the Pac-12’s automatic bid to the 29-team 2023 NCAA Tournament. All five contests of the 2023 Pac-12 Women’s Lacrosse Tournament are slated to be broadcast on Pac-12 Network and the Pac-12 Now app. The five contests are part of 17 Pac-12 Networks will broadcast this season.
