Stanford, USC, Arizona and Utah head to the Pac-12 Men's Tennis Semifinals

OJAI, Calif. - Four teams are headed to the Pac-12 Men's Tennis Championship Semifinals after a long day of Quarterfinal matchups. Heading into day three is No. 1 USC, No. 2 Arizona, No. 3 Utah and No. 4 Stanford.

No. 4 Stanford and No. 5 California began the Quarterfinals with the Golden Bears capturing a doubles point courtesy of Carl Emil Overbeck/Yuta Kikuchi (6-3) and Derrick Chen/Philip Hjorth (6-3) on courts one and three. Stanford’s Neel Rajesh (6-4, 6-2) and No. 4 Arthur Fery (6-1, 7-6 (6)) went back-to-back in the singles competition to put the Cardinal up 2-1. Despite Cal’s Lucas Magnaudet evening the scores on court No. 5 (6-1, 7-6 (6)), the Cardinal claimed a 4-2 win thanks to No. 27 Max Basing (6-4, 6-4) on Court No. 3 and Aryan Chaudhary on Court No. 6 (6-4, 3-6, 6-3)

The No. 1 Trojans sailed to a 4-0 win over No. 9 Oregon in match two of the Quarterfinals. Though Joshua Charlton and Quinn Vandecasteele (6-1) picked up a doubles win on court No. 1, Ryan Colby and Stefan Dostanic (6-2) and Wotjek Marek and Peter Makk took the doubles point for the Trojans (7-6 (4)). The singles competitions saw three wins in a row for USC. Marek began the three court win streak with a 6-3, 6-0 finish on court No. 4. Courts 1 (No. 32 Stefan Dostanic - 6-4, 6-2) and 5 (No 116 Bradley Frye - 7-5, 6-2) finished off the match, sending the Trojans to the Semifinals.

The No. 2 Arizona Wildcats accomplished the second 4-0 sweep of the day, taking down the No. 7 Washington Huskies. Court No. 2 got the doubles matches rolling with the Wildcat’s (Colton Smith/Herman Hoeyeraal - 6-1) taking the first duel. After the Huskies (Cesar Bouchelaghem/Dzianis Zharyn - 6-1) tied things up, Arizona’s Gustaf Strom and Eric Padgham broke the tie (7-6). The Wildcats went on to solidify three straight singles wins from courts 5 (Jay Friend - 6-1, 6-2), 4 (Herman Hoeyeraal - 6-2, 6-3) and 2 (Jonas Ziverts - 6-2, 6-2) to clinch the sweep.

For the first time in program history No. 3 Utah will head to the semifinals after besting No. 6 UCLA, 4-1. The Utes got off to a hot start with a 6-0 doubles win on court No. 1 (Patrik Trhac/Berk Bugarikj) with the 3’s following to clinch the point (Fransisco Bastias/Bruno Caula, 6-4). The Bruins were able to capture a sole singles win on court No. 2 (Giacomo Revelli - 6-3, 6-4) to start the singles competition but were met with three Utah wins including a nail biting tiebreak set on court 1 (Franco Capalbo - 6-1, 7-6 (3)). 

No 1. USC and No. 4 Stanford will go head to head in the Semifinals on Friday, April 28 at 1 p.m. PT while No. 2 Arizona is moving on to face No. 3 Utah on Friday at 4 p.m. PT. All four teams will play for chance to move on to the Championship match on Saturday, April 29 at 6 p.m. PT.
