Trojans and Utes Set to Go Head to Head in Pac-12 Men's Tennis Championship

OJAI, Calif. - For the first time in conference history, No. 1 USC and No. 3 Utah will go head to head in the Pac-12 Men's Tennis Championship after both picked up wins in the semifinals to advance in the Tournament. 

Match one of the Semifinals proved to be a close one as No. 4 Stanford battled to overtake the top seeded USC, with the Trojans finishing with a 4-2 win. The Cardinals were able to clinch the doubles point thanks to courts one (Arthur Fery/Samir Banerjee - 6-2) and three (Max Basing/Neel Rajesh - 7-6 (4)). Heading into the singles competition, the Trojans flipped the scales, picking up three consecutive wins on courts one (Stefan Dostanic - 6-1, 6-3), four (Wojtek Marek - 6-2, 6-2) and three (Peter Makk - 7-6 (3), 6-1). Stanford’s Filip Kolasinski was able to advance the score to 3-2 after defeating USC’s Bradley Frye in a close court five matchup (7-6 (1), 7-5). In the end, courts six and two were left to battle it out for the remaining points and the chance at the Championship. Trojan Lodewijk Weststrate clinched the win for USC (6-2, 2-6, 6-4), sending them onto tomorrow’s final. 

For the first time in conference history, the No. 3 Utah Utes are headed to the Championship match after taking down the No. 2 Wildcats, 4-3. The Utes captured the doubles point thanks to two close, tie breaking wins from Partik Trhac and Berk Bugarikj (7-6 (3)) and Fransisco Bastias and Bruno Caula (7-5). After conceding two singles points on courts one and four, the Utes came back to win three courts and the match. On court five, Patrik Trhac had an easy 6-0, 6-4 victory over Arizona's Jay Friend followed by a crucial match-tying win from Bruno Krenn on court six (6-2, 1-6, 7-5). With the deciding point coming down to court two, Geronimo Espin Busleiman (6-4, 6-7 (5), 6-1) was able to clinch and secure the historic win for the Utes. 

In a conference-first matchup, the No. 1 Trojans and No. 3 Utes will go head-to-head in the Pac-12 Men's Tennis Championship match tomorrow, Friday April 29 at 6 p.m. PT.
