No. 1 Stanford women's basketball wins its first national championship since 1992 after defeating No. 3 Arizona 54-53 in the 2021 NCAA Women's Basketball National Championship game on Sunday, Apr. 4 in San Antonio. Tara VanDerveer becomes the fourth D-1 women’s head coach to win three NCAA titles (1990, 1992 and 2021). Sophomore guard Haley Jones was named the Most Outstanding Player of the tournament as she finished with a team-high 17 points (8-of-14 FG) and eight rebounds in the championship contest. Arizona's Aari McDonald scored a game-high 22 points in the title matchup and ends her impressive tournament play with the most points scored by any player in the 2021 tournament (149 total points). Stanford has now won championships in 1990, 1992 and 2021.
