SEATTLE – The 2016 Pac-12 Women’s Gymnastics Championships got underway this afternoon with lower seeds No. 5 WASHINGTON, No. 6 STANFORD, No. 7 ARIZONA, and No. 8 ARIZONA STATE competing in the first session in Alaska Airlines Arena on campus at the University of Washington.

In the first session of the day, 6-seed STANFORD came out on top followed by ARIZONA, WASHINGTON, and ARIZONA STATE.

STANFORD finished the day with a total team score of 196.125. Last season, the Cardinal came in second place overall at Pac-12 Championships with a score of 197.350. STANFORD’s Elizabeth Price won the all-around in the first session with a 39.475 and also won three of four individual events: vault (9.900), bars (9.900), and floor (9.875). Fellow STANFORD gymnast Melissa Chuang claimed the only individual event title not won by Price, scoring a 9.925 to get the beam title. STANFORD had a 49.200 bars total to win the event, and a 49.100 beam total to claim that event as well.

In second place of Session 1 was ARIZONA with a score of 195.525. The Wildcats were led by senior Jessie Sisler who tied for second place on the floor with a 9.850 and tied for third on the beam (9.850) with teammate Maddy Cindric and WASHINGTON’s Joslyn Goings. The Wildcats also claimed the team title on the floor, with a score of 49.025

Host WASHINGTON ended with a score of 195.300 to get third place in Session 1. The Huskies also came away with a win on vault, earning a team score of 49.025 in the event. Junior Kaitlyn Duranczyk tied with STANFORD’s Elizabeth Price (9.900) on bars to share the individual event title.  WASHINGTON senior Allison Northey came in second place in the all-around with a score of 39.225 and tied with teammate Zoey Schaefer for second place on the floor with a 9.850. Sophomore Joslyn Goings came in third in the all-around with a 39.075 and tied for third on the beam with a 9.850. Junior Alexandra Yacalis also came in second place on the vault with a 9.850.

ARIZONA STATE rounded out Session 1 with a total team score of 191.675.

Session 2 will feature the four higher seeds, including defending champion and top seed UTAH. Also showcased in Session 2 will be seed No. 2 UCLA, No. 3 CALIFORNIA, and No. 4 OREGON STATE. The action will resume at 6:00 p.m. PT and will be shown live on Pac-12 Network, Pac-12 Mountain, Pac-12 LA, Pac-12 Bay Area, and Pac-12 Oregon.
