NCAA Baseball Super Regionals: Washington's historic season continues with first-ever College World Series berth

Another first awaits the Washington baseball program. The Huskies, after advancing to the first Super Regional in school history, are off to the College World Series after a dramatic walk-off win against Fullerton.

Fullerton Super Regional: Washington 6, Fullerton 5 (10 innings)

A wild back-and-forth game finally went the Huskies' way in the 10th inning Sunday, continuing the program's historical run through the postseason and giving UW its first-ever College World Series apperance.

Kaiser Weiss was the hero following a clutch sac fly to punch Washington's Omaha ticket. The RBI came after two Fullerton throwing errors and after Joe Wainhouse singled leading off the inning. Washington's two runs in the 10th inning erased an extra-inning deficit.

Hank LoForte blasted a solo homer to give Fullerton a 5-4 lead after Washington had rallied with a a run in the bottom half of the ninth. Weiss, inserted as a UW defensive replacement, roped a double over the rightfielder's head and later scored when Jonathan Schiffer promptly broght him home with a single. The run extended the game after Fullerton rallied for a dramatic game-chaning top of the ninth inning.

The Titans tallied three consecutive two-out hits to tie the game and take the lead off Washington starter Joe DeMers, who entered the inning having allowed just one hit over eight innings.

Washington's junior right-hander had a perfect game through six innings before allowing the Titans' first hit leading off the seventh. That runner eventually came around to score, but DeMers earned the nod to continue on in the ballgame looking to close things out. In total, DeMers' line was impressive considering the implications of Sunday's game. He allowed five hits and struck out three over 8 2/3 innnings of work.

Washington's offense provided plenty of backing early in the contest. Nick Kahle blasted a towering homer to lead off the fourth. Willie MacIver, one of DeMers' childhood friends and a high school teammate, went yard leading off the fifth to make it 2-0.

Levi Jordan, whose defense at shortstop this postseason has been stellar, slapped a two-out double past the second baseman to bring in the Huskies' third run of the game. The speedy Braiden Ward scored in emphatic fashion.

The Titans' first run of the contest game in the seventh when LoForte doubled to break up DeMers' perfect-game bid. He advanced to third on a fielder's choice and later scored on a sac fly.

Washington advances to face Mississippi State in its opening Omaha game.
