Remembering Former Wildcat Ruben Douglas

TUCSON, Ariz. - Former Arizona men's basketball player Ruben Douglas passed recently at the age of 44.  

Douglas played one season for the Wildcats in 1998-99, where he appeared in 27 games off the bench and averaged 8.0 points, 2.1 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game. Arizona was 22-7 overall that season and finished second in the Pac-10 with a 13-5 record. 

 

Following the 1998-99 season, Douglas transferred to the University of New Mexico where he would go on to a starring role that culminated in being named the Mountain West Player of the Year in 2002-03 while leading the country in scoring at 28.0 points per game. 

 

After his collegiate career, he went on to a successful professional career overseas. While playing for Fortitudo Bologna, he helped them claim the 2005 Italian League crown. He also guided Dynamo Moscow to its first-ever EuroCup championship while earning Most Valuable Player honors. 

 

Douglas was a native of Altadena, Calif., and attened Bellarmine-Jefferson High School prior to joining the Wildcats.
