One Round Complete at Pac-12 Men's Golf Championships

CAREFREE, Ariz. (April 26, 2024) – Washington State men's golf finished round one, and completed most of round two before nightfall in day one of the 2024 Pac-12 Men's Golf Championships Friday at the par 71, 7,203 yard Desert Forest Golf Club.

WSU finished round one at 26-over, 301 in 12th place, and will finish round two on Saturday morning at 8:30 a.m. before starting round three at 10:30 a.m.

Fifth year Pono Yanagi ended round one in a tie for 19th at 2-over, 73. After going one-under through five holes with a birdie on hole three, he bogeyed three down the stretch on the front nine. But he settled in on the back nine, tallying seven pars, a bogey and a birdie on the 18th hole.

Senior Nate Plaster is 4-over, 75 after the opening round, and sits in a tie for 34th. He came out hot, registering birdies on each of his first two holes before sitting 2-over at the turn. Another birdie on hole 14 in between a bogey and a double bogey would put his card at 4-over for the round.

Senior Preston Bebich is in a tie for 42nd after a 5-over, 76 showing in round one. Bebich birdied hole four to get back to even, but a triple bogey on five put him back over as he ended the front nine 3-over. An eagle on the 14th hole erased a double bogey on 11, but a couple more bogeys over his final holes put him 5-over for the round.

Redshirt freshman Ben Borgida is also tied for 42nd at 5-over, 76 through one round of play. He was 4-under at the turn before knocking down birdies on holes 10 and 14 on the back nine to end his round at 5-over.

Senior Drayton Joseph wrapped up day one in 68th at 10-over, 81. Joseph struggled to find a groove early, but birdied hole nine to go 5-over on the front nine. Despite another birdie on 11, he put up another 5-over on the back nine to finish 10-over.

Sophomore Sam Renner is in 72nd after round one with a 14-over, 85. Renner hit a rough stretch between birdies on holes two and nine to sit 7-over at the turn. He went on to birdie 10, but couldn't settle in as he carded another 7-over on the back nine.

The Cougars will finish round two and play round three on Saturday, before playing the fourth and final round of the Pac-12 Men's Golf Championships on Sunday.
