Pac-12 announces women's soccer players of the week

Sep 2, 2014

SAN FRANCISCO - The Pac-12 Conference announced today the Women’s Soccer Players of the Week for action from Aug. 25-31. USC’s Reilly Parker took home Offensive Player of the Week honors, while fellow Trojan Caroline Stanley was tabbed the Goalkeeper of the Week. UCLA’s Abby Dahlkemper was voted Defensive Player of the Week.

Reilly Parker (San Ramon, Calif.) played a big part in two huge wins for the Women of Troy this weekend, including a 2-1 win over tournament host and ninth-ranked Notre Dame. The junior transfer scored two goals, one in each game, on four shots for four total points. In the weekend opener against Iowa State, Parker added on the final Trojan goal in the 85th minute to put the game out of reach and give USC the 3-1 victory. Her biggest performance came on Sunday versus No. 9 Notre Dame. In the 72nd minute, teammate Tamara Mejia delivered a cross from the right flank and found an open Parker at the far post for a one-touch score. The goal was the go-ahead and eventual game-winner for USC as they remain unbeaten under first-year head coach Keidane McAlpine

Abby Dahlkemper (Menlo Park, Calif.) helped the Bruins record a pair of shutouts over San Diego and ninth-ranked North Carolina. The senior defender anchored a UCLA defense that went the first 348 minutes of the season without allowing a single shot on goal until 58 minutes into the game against San Diego, which was an eventual 2-0 victory for the Bruins. The one-shot performance against San Diego marked the third time in four games that UCLA has allowed one or fewer shots in a game. The Bruins allowed just four shots, none on goal, against North Carolina and became just the second team in history to allow zero shots on goal by the Tar Heels.

Caroline Stanley (Kansas City, Mo.) made seven saves in two games as USC swept the Notre Dame Invitational. Against No. 9 Notre Dame, the senior was peppered with 18 shots, but held her ground and allowed only one goal. Stanley made a crucial save in the 74th minute, stuffing a penalty kick taken by the Irish and preserving USC’s 2-1 lead that was the eventual final score.

This week, USC remains at home to take on UC Riverside in their lone match of the week on Friday, Sept. 5. The game will be televised live on Pac-12 Networks. The Bruins, meanwhile, travel to Honolulu to play in the Outrigger Resorts Soccer Classic, facing off against Hawai’i on Friday, Sept. 5 and Pepperdine on Sunday, Sept. 7.
