Pac-12 announces tennis players of the week

SAN FRANCISCO - UCLA freshman Martin Redlicki and CALIFORNIA sophomore Maegan Manasse were named the Pac-12 Men’s and Women’s Tennis Players of the Week for play from Feb. 2-8, the Conference office announced today.

Redlicki (Boca Raton, Fla.) was perfect in both singles and doubles last week, helping UCLA to a pair of non-conference victories over San Diego State and Saint Mary’s. In the team’s 4-0 win over the Aztecs on Saturday, the freshman had a 6-3, 6-0 win at court No. 4 following a 6-3 doubles victory with teammate Mackenzie McDonald. Redlicki then got the chance to play his first-ever match at the No. 1 singles position against Saint Mary’s on Sunday, posting a 7-5, 6-2 win over Arthur Weber along with another doubles victory with McDonald, a 6-4 win, as UCLA routed Saint Mary’s, 7-0. 

Manasse (Redondo Beach, Calif.) went 2-0 in singles and 2-1 in doubles to help No. 5 California reach the semifinals of the ITA National Women’s Team Indoor Championship in Charlottesville, Va. Cal beat No. 11 Vanderbilt, 4-3, and No. TCU, 4-1, before losing to No. 9 Georgia in the semifinal round. The fifth-ranked Manasse held off Vandy’s Sydney Campbell and TCU’s Stefanie Tan in court one singles. Also on court one, the fourth-ranked pair of Manasse and Denise Starr had two doubles victories but lost their match in the dual against Vanderbilt. 

Redlicki’s honor is the first of his career and the 24th all-time for UCLA. Manasse picks up her second-career weekly honor, and the 26th all-time selection for California. 

The UCLA men take their turn in Charlottesville at the ITA National Men’s Team Indoor Championship Feb. 13-16. The Cal women return home for a dual against Harvard on Sunday, Feb. 15 at 12 p.m. PT. For more information, including a full schedule, visit www.pac-12.com.
