Pac-12 and CFP Foundation’s Extra Yard for Teachers award over $36,000 to 12 teachers across San Jose area

SAN FRANCISCO – Leading up to the Pac-12’s sixth-consecutive football championship game at Levi’s® Stadium today, the Conference and mascots from all 12 universities surprised 12 deserving teachers throughout the San Jose area with awards totaling over $36,000 in connection with the College Football Playoff (CFP) Foundation’s Extra Yard for Teachers initiative. The awards took place as surprises for each teacher and their classrooms over the past two days. All 12 teachers and their classrooms were also welcomed to the championship game his evening to be recognized on the field during the game.
All 12 teachers who received awards are from nine total schools in the San Jose area. Representatives from the Pac-12 and local school districts, along with mascots from all 12 universities and Extra Yard for Teachers mascot ACE, took part in presenting the awards. Selections for the 12 deserving teachers were made by the Pac-12 in conjunction with the Conference’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, comprised of current student-athletes from each institution. The Pac-12 and CFP Foundation have now worked together each year for the past several years to honor teachers across all 12 university footprints through teacher grants. The work has also been showcased across Pac-12 Networks with feature vignettes of student-athletes and coaches recognizing teachers who made a difference in their lives. In support of the overall mission of Extra Yard for Teachers, the Pac-12 has worked with the CFP Foundation to help elevate the teaching profession by inspiring and empowering quality teachers.
In addition to the donations made to the 12 local teachers this week, each Pac-12 university also donated $10,000 to deserving local teachers in their communities over the course of the football season. Focusing on science, technology, engineering, the arts and math, the partnership has produced over $170,000 in grant funding over the past five years.
Also taking place tonight, the Pac-12 again hosted hundreds of local Bay Area teachers for the championship game.
