SAN FRANCISCO - It came down to the final game of the regular season, but the bracket for the 2023 Pac-12 Baseball Tournament is set with Stanford claiming the No. 1 seed for a second straight year. The second annual tournament gets underway on Tuesday, May 23 at Scottsdale Stadium in Scottsdale, Ariz.

In a format change from last year's inaugural tournament, the 2023 edition expands the field from eight teams to nine teams and switches to pool play. Pool play will take place on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, with three games per day followed by the semifinals on Friday, May 26 and the Championship game on Saturday, May 27. Pool A will include seeds #1, #6 and #9 with Pool B made up of seeds #2, #5, and #8. Seeds #3, #4 and #7 will compete in Pool C.

Stanford, ranked No. 5 in the country in the USA Today Coaches Poll, concluded conference play 23-7 overall and polished off back-to-back regular season titles, the first consecutive titles for the Cardinal since 2003 and 2004 and first by a Pac-12 team since Oregon State won in 2013 and 2014. Stanford is looking to win its second straight tournament crown and make a run at its third consecutive Men's College World Series.

Joining the Cardinal in Pool A is No. 6 seed Oregon and No. 9 seed California, who took two of three at No. 24 Washington on the final weekend to claim the final spot in the tournament. The Ducks and Bears will meet Tuesday night at 7 p.m., followed by the Cardinal and Bears on Wednesday at 7 p.m. Pool A play concludes with the Ducks and Cardinal facing off on Thursday at 7 p.m.

No. 18-ranked Oregon State finished Pac-12 play 18-12 overall and won seven of its final eight league series, but had to scoreboard watch on its conference bye weekend to see where it would finish in the standings. Thanks to some help from the Bears in Seattle, the Beavers slid into the No. 2 seed for a second straight year and will be the highest seed in Pool B, which also features No. 5 seed Arizona State and No. 8 seed Arizona.

The in-state rivals will kick off the 2023 tournament at 10 a.m. on Tuesday morning. The two squads met last year in Scottsdale with the Wildcats ending the Sun Devils' tournament run. Oregon State and Arizona will square off on Wednesday at 10 a.m. with the final game of Pool B between the Sun Devils and Beavers set for Thursday at 10 a.m.

Despite the series loss to Cal, Washington will be the No. 3 seed after its highest regular-season finish since taking third in 2018, the year UW reached the Men's College World Series. The Huskies enter the tournament having won 12 of their last 15 and will be the top seed in Pool C, taking on No. 7 seed UCLA on Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. PT and No. 4 seed USC on Thursday at 2:30 p.m.

As part of back-to-back rivalry matchups to start the 2023 tournament, UCLA and USC will battle in the second game of the day Tuesday after the Arizona and Arizona State showdown. UCLA and Arizona both captured spots on the final weekend with the Bruins needing just one win against the Sun Devils and Arizona winning the series against USC to secure its berth. The Wildcats and Bears finished in a tie for eighth with Arizona earning the No. 8 seed via the head-to-head tiebreaker over California.

At the conclusion of pool play on Thursday night, the three pool winners will advance to the Friday single-elimination semifinals along with one Wild Card team. The Wild Card will be determined by the best record of the non-advancing teams with any tiebreaker awarded to the highest seeded team.

The semifinal matchups will pit the highest-seeded team against the lowest-seeded team on one side with the second-highest seed and second-lowest seed on the other. Teams from the same pool however will not play each other in the semifinals.

Every game will be televised with Pac-12 Networks the home for all games Tuesday through Friday. On Saturday, the 2023 Pac-12 Tournament Championship Game will air on ESPNU at 7 p.m. PT.
