A Championship Bruin?

  • With 15 points and two games in hand on current league-leader Oregon State (16 pts.), UCLA has an opportunity to secure at least a share of its first Pac-12 championship since 2012 with positive results during this week's trip to the Bay Area and the Beavers idle until their regular-season finale versus Washington on Nov. 9.
    • With two victories, the Bruins would clinch the Pac-12 title outright and earn the league's NCAA automatic qualification.
    • With a victory and a draw, the Bruins would secure at least a share of the Pac-12 title; the league's AQ would remain to be determined pending results of the final week of regular-season play.
    • If the Bruins take any fewer than four points from the Bay this week, the league title and auto bid would come down to next week's final matches.
  • Entering this week's action, both California and Stanford remain in contention for the Conference crown and auto bid, with both teams needing to win out and receive beneficial results from around the league.

Week 10 Results

  • Both Oregon State and UCLA took four points last week to further expand their margins atop the Pac-12 standings.
    • On Thursday, the Beavers secured a 1-0 win at San Diego State while the Bruins blanked Washington at home by the same 1-0 score.
    • OSU and UCLA then played to a 0-0 draw on Sunday to complete the season head-to-head series with a pair of ties (T 2-2, 10/5/22), bringing additional NCAA auto-bid tiebreakers into play should the two teams finish as co-champions with equal points.
    • UCLA is unbeaten through its first seven league games (4-0-3) for the first time since it went a perfect 10-0-0 in league play in 2011.
  • Stanford and California played to a 1-1 draw on Sunday, a result which extended the Cardinal's unbeaten streak in Berkeley to a full decade (8-0-2).
  • Washington and San Diego State also played to a 1-1 draw on Sunday.
  • All five of last week's matches finished as either draws or one-goal margins, bringing the season total to 19-of-23 league contests (10 draws, 9 one-goal margins); combined with the 2022 campaign, 41-of-52 league contests to date have finished tied (19) or decided by a single goal (22).

Week 10 Top Performers

  • Zach Bohane collected his second Pac-12 Player of the Week honor of the season after his precision free kick connected with the near-post run of Jackson Kiil for a header equalizer in the 1-1 draw at Cal. Bohane's assist on Kiil's goal offset a brilliant individual-effort goal from Cal's Evan Davila, his team-leading fifth of the season for the Golden Bears.
  • Logan Farrington scored his league-leading 11th goal of the season via a free kick in Oregon State's 1-0 victory at San Diego State. Farrington is now tied for sixth in OSU history in single-season goals, and has matched Ilijah Paul's league-high 11 in 2022.
  • Goalkeeper Luis Castillo and the Beaver defense has now posted three consecutive shutouts, allowing just six total shots on goal over that three-match span.
  • Sean Karani's 47th-minute goal stood as the winner in UCLA's 1-0 victory over Washington, helping the Bruins sweep the season series with the Huskies for the first time since 2015.
  • Washington's Imanol Rosales assisted Nate Jones' 46th-minute equalizer in the 1-1 draw at San Diego State, giving Rosales 26 career assists which is good for 10th-most in Pac-12 history.

RPI Update

  • The Pac-12 is 1-of-4 leagues with three teams inside the NCAA RPI Top 25, joining the ACC (7), America East (3), and Sun Belt (3).
  • Oregon State made the largest jump of the past week, climbing five spots to a season-best RPI rank of No. 19 to join No. 17 Stanford and No. 24 UCLA in the top 25.
    • The Beavers have improved 13 spots over the past two weeks, and 38 since the initial RPI release (No. 57) on Sept. 24.
  • No. 42 California, No. 43 Washington and No. 58 San Diego State round out the league's representation in the RPI.
    • Washington's league-leading streak of seven consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances is in jeopardy as the Huskies - at 5-6-6 overall - currently sit below the .500 win percentage required for at-large selections.
  • The Pac-12's five teams ranked inside the RPI Top 50 all have Strengths of Schedule of 26-or-better (OSU 6, WASH 7, UCLA 22, CAL 25, STAN 26).
  • According to the Massey Ratings system, Pac-12 programs are ranked Nos. 1-5 in overall Strength of Schedule (OSU 1, WASH 2, CAL 3, STAN 4, UCLA 5), while in the RPI Update system all five programs have Top 25 SOS (OSU 5, WASH 6, UCLA 20, CAL 22, STAN 23).
  • The Pac-12 continues to rate as the nation's top league according to both the NCAA Conference RPI and Non-Conference RPI reports.
