OJAI, Calif. – Arizona’s Gustaf Strom and Arizona State’s Marianna Argyrokastriti were named the 2024 Pac-12 Men’s and Women’s Tennis Scholar-Athletes of the Year, the Conference office announced during the Pac-12 Tennis Championships in Ojai. The awards, which are presented in each of the 24 sports sponsored by the Pac-12, were established to honor collegiate student-athletes who are standouts both academically and in their sports discipline.

It’s the first Pac-12 Scholar-Athlete of the Year award for Strom, a senior from Stockholm, Sweden who helped lead the Wildcats to a share of the Pac-12 regular season title in 2024. Strong boasts a 21-10 record in singles this season, including a 4-1 mark in Pac-12 play. He has compiled 78 singles and 60 doubles wins across his impressive career with Arizona, the fourth and third-most in program history, respectively. Strom earned First-Team All-Pac-12 acclaim in 2023 and Second-Team All-Pac-12 honors in 2022.

Strom maintains a 3.68 GPA and is finishing his degree in Arizona’s Management Information Systems program. He earned a spot on the Pac-12 Academic Honor Roll in 2022 and 2023 and was selected for ITA Scholar Athlete distinction in 2021 and 2022. College Sports Communicators (CSC) also named Strong to its tennis All-District team in 2023.

Argyrokastriti earns her first Pac-12 Scholar-Athlete of the Year award after a 2023 regular season that saw her compile a 7-5 record in singles and 10-4 record in doubles alongside freshman Emilija Tverijonaite. She boasted a team-best 18 singles wins in the spring of 2023, splitting time between Courts 3 and 4.

The senior from Athens, Greece maintains a 4.00 GPA in Arizona State’s Business (Communications) program and was one of eight Sun Devils named a High Academic Achiever. She was named to the CSC Academic All-District Team and the CSC Academic All-America First Team.

The Wildcat men and Sun Devil women both see their first action of the tournament on Thursday, with No. 2 Arizona taking on No. 7 USC at 3 p.m. PT in the men’s bracket and No. 5 Arizona State facing No. 4 California in the women’s field.

In order to be eligible for the Pac-12 Scholar-Athlete of the Year award, student-athletes must be a senior (in athletics eligibility), on track to receive a degree, have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or higher, participate in at least 50 percent of the scheduled contests in the sport and have a minimum one year in residence at the institution. Each Pac-12 institution may nominate one individual per sport, and the winners are selected by a committee of Pac-12 staff members at the conclusion of each sport’s regular season. The athletics accomplishments of the nominees are a consideration in voting for the award.
