Season Ends For Huskies In Pac-12 Quarterfinals

OJAI, Calif. – Washington Men's Tennis had its 2023-24 season come to a close today in a loss to top-seeded Stanford in the quarterfinals of the Pac-12 Championships at Libbey Park in Ojai, Calif. 20th-ranked Stanford advanced to the semis with a 4-0 win over the Huskies, who end the season 9-15 overall.
 
The Huskies will look to the future where they will return four of their top-five singles players. Playing their final match as Huskies today were seniors Han-Chih Lin, Jim Hendrikx, and Heman Nama.
 
UW is the only 8-seed ever to upset a 1-seed at the Pac-12 tourney, having done so two years ago against Arizona. So the Huskies were looking to make more history today, but the Cardinal proved too tough.
 
In doubles, all three matches were even at 3-3, but then Stanford broke away on the top two courts, winning the final three games on each one for 6-3 victories to clinch the point. Nama and Nedim Suko were at 4-5 at the No. 3 spot when it was suspended.
 
Stanford kept up the pressure in singles, taking first sets on all six courts. Nedim Suko dropped a 6-2, 6-1 decision on court four to Neel Rajesh, then Jim Hendrikx lost a 6-1, 6-2 match to Hudson Rivera on court six. The match was clinched and suspended when Cesar Bouchelaghem lost, 6-1, 6-3, to 17th-ranked Nishesh Basavareddy on the No. 1 court.
