USC’s Solomon Byrd Selected by Houston Texans in Seventh Round of 2024 NFL Draft

LOS ANGELES – USC defensive lineman Solomon Byrd was selected by the Houston Texans as the 18th pick of the seventh round (238th overall) of the 2024 NFL Draft. 
 
Byrd is USC's 529th all-time NFL draftee. USC is second behind Notre Dame's 532 for most NFL Draft picks all-time.
 
Byrd is the ninth Trojan defensive lineman drafted since 2010.

He is the first Trojan picked by the Houston Texans since Calen Bullock was selected in the third round with the No. 78 overall pick in 2024.  
 
Byrd, who transferred to USC in the fall of 2022 from Wyoming, tallied 28 total tackles, including 7 for loss of 45 yards (with 4 sacks for losses of 28 yards) as a redshirt senior. He also had 1 forced fumble, 1 fumble recovery, 1 QB hurry and 1 pass breakup while contributing to USC's defensive line in all 14 games with 4 starts.
 
He had 37 tackles, including 3.5 sacks, while appearing in 8 games (with 6 starts) as a redshirt junior defensive end in 2021 for Wyoming.  

He opted out the 2020 season due to COVID-19. 

At Wyoming, Byrd earned 2019 FWAA Freshman All-American first team honors while appearing in 12 games (with 1 start, versus UNLV) as a redshirt freshman, getting 45 tackles, including 9.5 for losses (with a team-high 6.5 sacks), plus a team-best 2 forced fumbles, a fumble recovery and a deflection.  

He appeared in 3 games as a 2018 true freshman at Wyoming, making 5 tackles. 
 
On Thursday (April 25), USC Heisman Trophy winning quarterback Caleb Williams was selected No. 1 overall by the Chicago Bears in the first round. With Williams' No. 1 overall selection, USC now holds the record for most players (6) selected as the top pick of the NFL Draft.

On Friday (April 27), USC First Team All-American safety Calen Bullock was selected by the Houston Texans as the 14th pick of the third round (78th overall) and running back MarShawn Lloyd was selected by the Green Bay Packers as the 25thpick of the third round (88th overall). 
 
Earlier today, offensive lineman Jarrett Kingston was selected by the San Francisco 49ers as the 39thpick of the sixth round (215th overall) and USC wide receiver Brenden Rice was selected by the Los Angeles Chargers as the fifth pick of the seventh round (225th overall) of the 2024 NFL Draft. 
 
The 2024 NFL Draft concludes with the fourth through seventh rounds on Saturday (April 27).
