Lee Leads No. 20 Bears To Series Win

Apr 28, 2024
Kaylee Pond homered for the second time of the series on Sunday at Arizona State.

TEMPE, Ariz. – Mika Lee tied a career high with four RBI as the No. 20 California softball team took the series from Arizona State with a 7-2 victory on Sunday afternoon at Farrington Stadium.

Cal hit three home runs for the third straight game with Elon Butler, Kaylee Pond and Lee all going deep for the Golden Bears (33-15, 7-12 Pac-12). Kelsey Hall went 2-for-2 for the Sun Devils (19-27, 3-18 Pac-12).

Butler's 15th bomb of the season brings her within one of tying for fifth on the Cal single season record list with Haley Woods and Danielle Henderson (16).

It was a pitcher's duel through the first two innings until Cal broke out in a big way with three home runs in the third frame. Butler and Kaylee Pond went back-to-back before Lee's 3-run shot broke the game open as the Bears put up a six-run inning.

Leading 6-0, ASU got a pair of runs back in the home half of the frame off of two hits, but Haylei Archer was able to get two straight strikeouts to strand three Sun Devils and limit the damage.

Lee kept her big day at the plate going in the fifth with an RBI double to score pinch-runner Hope Alley and make it 7-2, Bears. Ryann Orange came on in the fifth frame and allowed just one hit in 3.0 innings to earn her second save of the weekend as Cal picked up its first series win in Tempe since 2010.
