The Pac-12 announced today postseason honors and all-conference designations for the 2024 women’s tennis season, as determined by a polling of the league’s head coaches. Stanford’s Angelica Blake and Katherine Hui were named Pac-12 Singles Player of the Year and Freshman/Newcomer of the Year, respectively. 2023 Pac-12 Freshman/Newcomer of the Year Tian Fangran from UCLA earned Pac-12 Doubles Team of the Year honors with partner Elise Wagle. Stanford’s Lele Forood was named Pac-12 Coach of the Year for the second-straight season.
PAC-12 SINGLES PLAYER OF THE YEAR: Angelica Blake, Gr., Stanford (Boca Raton, Fla.)
Blake won her first-career Pac-12 Singles Player of the Year award, the second-straight for Stanford after teammate Alexandra Yepifanova earned the honor in 2023. Blake is 11-4 singles on the year (10-4 in duals on Court 1), riding a six-match winning streak en route to the No. 17 overall singles ranking in the country. The graduate student from Boca Raton, Fla., was undefeated at the Pac-12 Women’s Tennis Tournament in Ojai, dropping only nine games in three matches to lead Stanford to the tournament title.
PAC-12 FRESHMAN/NEWCOMER OF THE YEAR: Katherine Hui, Fr., Stanford (San Diego, Calif.)
Stanford’s Katherine Hui picked up Pac-12 Freshman of the Year honors after compiling a 14-5 record singles, including a 13-3 mark in duals. The San Diego native has primarily seen time on Court 5 for the Cardinal, but is a combined 5-0 in her appearances across Courts 2-4 this season. Hui earned Second Team All-Pac-12 acclaim for her efforts in her debut season. It’s the seventh all-time Freshman of the Year honor for Stanford and first since fellow All-Pac-12 honoree Connie Ma won the award in 2022.
PAC-12 DOUBLES TEAM OF THE YEAR: Tian Fangran, So. (Beijing, China) & Elise Wagle, Jr., (Niskayuna, N.Y.), UCLA
Tian Fangran and Elise Wagle, the No. 13 doubles pair in the country, were named Pac-12 Doubles Team of the Year. The pair went 9-3 in decided matches, including a five-match winning streak to end the regular season and Pac-12 Tournament. It’s the third time in four years the Bruin women have earned the annual doubles award, including the second-straight year for Wagle, who teamed up with First Team All-Pac-12 honoree Kimmi Hance to secure the acclaim in 2023. Wagle is just the seventh woman in Pac-12 history to become a two-time winner of the annual doubles award and only the fourth to win the award with two different partners (Jada Hart, UCLA; Lauren Kalvaria, STAN; Lauren Barnikow, STAN).
PAC-12 COACH OF THE YEAR: Lele Forood, Stanford
Lele Forood repeats as Pac-12 Coach of the Year after guiding the Cardinal to its third-straight 2024 Pac-12 Women’s Tennis Tournament title; it’s her eighth Pac-12 Coach of the Year title across her distinguished career at Stanford. Forood guided Stanford to an 8-1 regular season record in Pac-12 play to finish second overall in the league standings before dispatching No. 7-seed Arizona, No. 3-seed USC, and No. 4-seed Cal en route to the tournament title. Stanford is currently the No. 2 team in the nation heading into the the NCAA Championships.
