Season Comes To An End For No. 7 Cal

GULF SHORES, Ala. – The No. 7 California beach volleyball team was defeated by No. 2 UCLA 3-0 in the quarterfinal round of the NCAA Championship Saturday morning.
 
The 2024 season came to an end for the Golden Bears (22-14) who finished in the top-eight for the second-straight year. The program now holds a 2-3 record in NCAA Championship matches.
 
The Bruins (34-6) swept the top three courts and won eight of the 10 completed sets to advance to the semifinal where they will face No. 11 LSU.
 
Sophomores Portia Sherman and Jenna Colligan won the first set on court four in a match that went unfinished. Sherman led the pair with 15 kills and Colligan added 14 kills with a pair of blocks.
 
Sherman ends the year with 27 wins, which is tied for the fifth most in a single season in program history. She finished a perfect 7-0 on court four and went 20-6 on court five.
 
After dropping the first set on court five, graduate student Lara Boos and junior Ella Dreibholz bounced back to win the second and final set of the season for the Bears. Dreibholz posted a double-double with 16 kills and 14 digs.
 
Freshman Emma Donley tied two Bruins for the most kills in the dual with 17 and tallied two aces.
