SAN FRANCISCO – The Pac-12 Conference announced today the baseball postseason honors, All-Conference and All-Defensive teams for the 2021 season, as determined by a polling of the league’s coaches. OREGON's Aaron Zavala was voted Pac-12 Player of the Year, while ARIZONA STATE's Drew Swift was voted Defensive Player of the Year. STANFORD's Brendan Beck was tabbed Pac-12 Pitcher of the Year, ARIZONA's Daniel Susac was named Pac-12 Freshman of the Year and Wildcat head coach Jay Johnson was voted the Pac-12 Coach of the Year. UCLA’s JT Schwartz was crowned the Pac-12 Batting Champion with a league-leading .405 batting average.

PAC-12 PLAYER OF THE YEAR: Aaron Zavala, So., OF, Oregon (Keizer, Ore.) 
Yesterday named a second-team All-American by Collegiate Baseball, Zavala wrapped up his regular season with a .398 batting average, seven home runs, 34 RBI and 58 runs scored. Among the league leaders in a number of categories, the sophomore tops the Pac-12 in on-base percentage (.538) and walks (49), is second in batting average, third in runs scored, and seventh in both hits (72) and slugging percentage (.613). His runs and walks totals this season are school records and his .538 on-base percentage is second nationally. Zavala is the first Duck to win a Pac-12 Player of the Year honor in 42 years, since Tom Dodd was named the Player of the Year in the Conference’s North Division in 1979.

PAC-12 DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR: Drew Swift, R-Jr., INF, ASU (Chandler, Ariz.) 
A career second baseman who shifted to shortstop this season, Swift started 51 games and committed just five errors this spring, en route to a .979 fielding percentage. Featuring an infield with three freshmen and Swift, a redshirt junior, ASU leads the country with 57 double plays – four more than any other team. At the plate, Swift has hit six of his seven career home runs in 2021 and knocked in a personal-best 36 runs. He is the first Sun Devil to win the Conference's Defensive Player of the Year award, which was instituted in 2013.

PAC-12 PITCHER OF THE YEAR: Brendan Beck, Sr., RHP, Stanford (Corona, Calif.)
The Cardinal’s ace, Beck is 7-1 with a 3.03 ERA across 13 appearances this season, including 12 starts. The right-hander, who yesterday was named a second-team All-American by Collegiate Baseball, has struck out a league-leading 106 against just 20 walks over 86 innings of work, Stanford’s highest strikeout total since Mark Appel had 130 in 2013. Beck has held his opponents to a .188 batting average this spring, turned in 10 quality starts and his 0.92 WHIP leads the Conference and ranks 19th nationally. Announced as a second-team All-American by Collegiate Baseball yesterday, he is Stanford’s first Pac-12 Pitcher of the Year since John Hudgins in 2003 and eighth all-time.

PAC-12 FRESHMAN OF THE YEAR: Daniel Susac, Fr., C, Arizona (Roseville, Calif.) 
The Wildcats' starting catcher in 2021, Susac finished the regular season hitting .344 with 45 runs, 20 doubles, one triple, 12 home runs, 59 RBI, a .618 slugging percentage and a .396 on-base percentage. He made 52 starts behind the plate, and posted a .996 fielding percentage while catching nearly 90 percent of Arizona's innings. Susac set or tied a number of Arizona freshman records in Pac-12 play, including hits (45), home runs (8), doubles (12), extra-base hits (21), total bases (83) and slugging percentage (.669). A semifinalist for the Buster Posey National Collegiate Catcher of the Year Award, Susac was named a Collegiate Baseball Second Team All-American on Wednesday. Susac is Arizona's second overall and second consecutive Pac-12 Freshman of the Year (Austin Wells - 2019).

PAC-12 COACH OF THE YEAR: Jay Johnson, Arizona 
In his sixth season in charge, Johnson has led Arizona to a 40-15 overall record and the No. 5 seed in the upcoming NCAA Tournament. His team’s 21-9 mark in league play, which included the second-most Conference wins in program history, secured the Wildcats their first outright Pac-12 Championship since 1992. The Wildcats posted a winning Pac-12 record for the fourth time in five tries under Johnson, something that only happened three times in the 10 years prior to his arrival in 2016. Led by a powerful presence at the plate, Arizona’s offense wrapped up the regular season leading the Conference in runs, hits, doubles, triples, RBI, walks, batting average, on-base percentage, slugging percentage, total bases, and extra-base hits while placing tied for third in home runs. Johnson has led the Wildcats to the postseason in three of his five full seasons at the helm, including the College World Series in 2016. His Conference honor is the fifth for an Arizona head coach all-time and first since 2012.

PAC-12 BATTING CHAMPION: JT Schwartz, R-So., INF, UCLA (Newport Beach, Calif.) 
Redshirt sophomore earned distinction as the Pac-12’s Batting Champion for 2021, posting a .405 average with 60 hits in 148 at bats, including a hit of 11 of his final 12 regular-season appearances. In addition to his league-leading average, Schwartz finished third on the team in home runs (7) and led the Bruins with 41 runs batted in. His .528 on-base percentage is second in the Pac-12 and his .635 slugging percentage of .635 is fourth.
