SAN FRANCISCO - One of the longest-running rivalries in sports is in full swing this week as Stanford visits California Memorial Stadium to square off against the Golden Bears on Saturday, Nov. 19 at 2:30 p.m. PT / 3:30 p.m. MT on Pac-12 Network.

  • The series dates back to 1892 and is the sixth-longest active running series in FBS, as well as the second-longest in the West. The Cardinal leads the all-time series, 65-48-11, however Cal has walked off with The Axe in two of the last three matchups.

  • The most notable contest in the series occurred 40 years ago, and is headlined by one of the most iconic plays in sports history which elevated the rivalry to new heights. Stanford had pulled ahead, 20-19, with four seconds left in regulation, and kicked off to Cal who received the squib kick inside their own 45-yard line. The Golden Bears proceeded to work their way towards the end zone with lateral after lateral, and chaos ensued when the Stanford band came onto the field in celebration of assumed victory. Kevin Moen caught the final lateral and scrambled into the end zone, dodging Stanford players and band members for the improbable win.

  • Pac-12 Networks is live from Berkeley, California this Saturday, Nov. 19 to share the sights and sounds of the 125th Big Game.
    • Legendary Cal radio broadcaster Joe Starkey, who was on the call 40 years ago and is set to broadcast his final Big Game before retirement, is interviewed during “Pac-12 Tailgate,” presented by Buffalo Wild Wings, at 10 a.m. PT / 11 a.m. MT on Pac-12 Network.
    • Ashley Adamson, Nick Aliotti and Shane Vereen preview Saturday's matchups live from California Memorial Stadium during “The Pregame,” presented by Paycor, following at 10:30 a.m. PT / 11:30 a.m. MT on Pac-12 Network.

  • Pac-12 Insider is re-airing the 1982 installment of the rivalry, as well as other California vs. Stanford classics, throughout the day this Thursday, Nov. 17 beginning at 6 a.m. PT / 7 a.m. MT. A full schedule of the marathon can be found here.
