Oregon in Second After Shortened Day One

Apr 26, 2024

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – Oregon men's golf is on track to shoot the lowest score of the second round, but play was suspended prior to its completion on day one of the Pac-12 Championships on Friday. The second round will conclude Saturday morning, with the 24th-ranked Ducks in second place on the leaderboard as things stand.

After shooting a 13-over 368, Oregon found itself 19 strokes off the lead in a tie for fourth as the first round drew to a close. The second round was a different story as UO shot a collective 4-under on the front nine to shorten the gap. At the time play was suspended, the Ducks sat in solo second with just eight strokes separating them and the leaders, No. 11 Washington.

Aiden Krafft and Greg Solhaug led the charge for Oregon as each finished the day 1 over par. Krafft completed both of his rounds on the day, firing 2 under in the second to shoot 18 spots up the leaderboard into a tie for fifth. Finishing just behind the pair was Eric Doyle who finished the day tied for 11th at 3 over. Greyson Leach is the fourth Duck inside the top 25 as he currently sits in a tie for 23rd at 7 over with one hole left to play.

How It Happened: Solhaug had an incredible start to the day as the senior birdied each of his first three holes and four of his first six en route to carding a 3-under 68 in the opening round. Despite a pair of birdies, Solhaug is currently 4 over in the second round with two holes left to play, putting himself in a tie for fifth overall at 1 over.

Krafft finished his first nine holes of the day even to par, but bogeys on four of his next five holes led to him shooting a 3-over 74 in his first round. The second round was a different story as four birdies and one bogey on the front nine powered a 2-under finish, putting him in a tie with Solhaug at 1 over for the tournament.

Doyle was a steady performer on Friday, making 27 pars across his two rounds. After shooting 2 over in his opening round, the junior sank a birdie on the final hole of his second to end the day 3 over par, tied for 11th.

Six bogeys hindered Leach in his opening round as he shot a 4-over 75 across his first 18 holes of the day. The junior used three birdies to counter three bogeys on the front nine of his second round, but with one hole remaining the junior is currently 3 over for the round and 7 over overall, tied for 23rd.

Nate Stember battled through a difficult opening round in which he shot 7 over and steadied the ship with two birdies on the front nine of his second. With three holes left to play, Stember is currently 3 over for the round and 9 over for the tournament, putting himself in a tie for 31st.
